FlingDrop for Developers

Most file sharing platforms were designed for end users clicking buttons in a browser. FlingDrop was built with developers in mind — a REST API, a cross-platform CLI, and native desktop clients so you can integrate file sharing into any workflow.

Developer toolkit

Everything you need to automate file sharing

REST API

Upload files, generate temporary download links, and manage expiration programmatically. Standard JSON responses, Bearer token or API Key authentication, and comprehensive documentation.

Cross-platform CLI

flingdrop upload build.zip — works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Pipe output, chain commands, and integrate into any shell script or CI/CD pipeline.

API Key authentication

Generate API keys from the dashboard and authenticate with a single X-API-Key header. No OAuth flows, no token refresh — just straightforward key-based auth.

Configurable link expiration

Set expiration per upload (1–90 days) via API parameter. Files are permanently deleted from servers after expiry — ideal for GDPR compliance and temporary deliverables.

No recipient accounts

Generated download links work in any browser with no login or software required. Share build artifacts, logs, or reports with anyone via a simple URL.

Automatic cleanup

Files are permanently deleted after the expiration window — not just the link, but the actual data. No manual housekeeping needed. Meets GDPR storage limitation requirements.

Use cases

How developers use FlingDrop in production

CI/CD artifact delivery

Push build artifacts to FlingDrop from GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. Share a temporary download link with QA or stakeholders automatically.

Automated nightly builds

Schedule uploads via cron or task scheduler. The CLI exits with standard codes so your scripts can handle success and failure gracefully.

Client file delivery

Generate temporary download links from your own app via the REST API. Deliver exports, reports, or media to your users without hosting the files yourself.

Log & diagnostic sharing

Upload server logs or crash dumps from the command line and share a self-expiring link with your support team. No email attachments, no storage clutter.

Cross-team collaboration

Business plan supports multiple users under one account with shared storage. Developers, QA, and project managers on the same team with 500GB monthly bandwidth.

Desktop right-click upload

Not everything needs a script. Right-click any file in Windows Explorer or drag to the macOS menu bar for instant uploads when you need a quick share.

Developer FAQ

Common questions about FlingDrop's API and developer tools

Which plans include API access?

The REST API and CLI tool are available on Pro ($7/month, 2GB/file, 100 files/day, 30-day links) and Business ($29/month, 10GB/file, 500GB storage, 90-day links). The free plan (100MB/file, 5 files/day, 7-day links) supports web and desktop uploads only.

How does API authentication work?

Generate an API key from the FlingDrop dashboard. Include it in requests as an X-API-Key header. No OAuth handshake or token refresh required — one header, every request.

Can I use the CLI in CI/CD pipelines?

Yes. The CLI runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It accepts an API key via environment variable or config file, returns standard exit codes, and outputs the download URL to stdout for easy piping.

What happens to files after they expire?

Files are permanently deleted from FlingDrop servers — not just link-expired. This automatic cleanup meets GDPR storage limitation requirements and ensures no stale data persists.

Do download recipients need a FlingDrop account?

No. Every upload generates a direct download URL that works in any browser. Recipients do not need an account, login, or software installed.
